About The Presenter (BIO) Dr. Rebecca Ledger is an ethologist who specializes in companion animal welfare and behaviour. Rebecca graduated from London University in 1992, where she her thesis focused on the development of urolithiasis in cats and dogs. She was awarded an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare from Edinburgh University in 1993 following research into the association between early socialization, coat colour and behaviour in domestic cats. Dr. Rebecca Ledger is an ethologist who specializes in companion animal welfare and behaviour. Rebecca graduated from London University in 1992, where she her thesis focused on the development of urolithiasis in cats and dogs. She was awarded an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare from Edinburgh University in 1993 following research into the association between early socialization, coat colour and behaviour in domestic cats. Dr. Ledger left Edinburgh to conduct research with UFAW into the effects of noise levels on the welfare of dogs in rescue shelters. Following a period working in industry when Rebecca worked for the Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition as an Animal Behaviourist, she obtained her PhD in companion animal behaviour from Brunel University; her thesis, to develop and evaluate methods for the assessment of personality and behavioural disorders in dogs. Rebecca has held various research positions, including that of Sanofi Fellow at the University of Lincoln, researching the effects of psyhcopharmaceuticals on learning and cognition in dogs, and RSPCA and Friskies Fellowships at Brunel University, where she also held the post of Lecturer. Concurrent with this, Rebecca studied for her MBA and also spent time working for The Animal Behaviour Centre as a companion animal behaviour therapist, under the supervision of Dr. Roger Mugford. Rebecca came to Canada in 2002, where she held the post of Visiting Scholar at the University of British Columbia's Animal Welfare Program. She then went on to become the Behaviour & Welfare Manager for the BCSPCA. Dr. Ledger has supervised many MSC and PhD students in animal welfare and has published more than 70 research paper and abstracts in animal behaviour. She has now established her own behaviour therapy practice, continues to be involved in research, and assist humane organizations across North America with the development, implementation and validation of effective and humane animal welfare practices. She lives in Vancouver, Canada, with her husband, two children, and rescued pets.
